Bourne’s Jason Burrill continued his run of good form when competing in the Welwyn Garden City Track League on the Welwyn Velodrome.

In a scintillating 10 mile scratch race not only did he win quite convincingly but took a couple of big name scalps along the way, including Tony Gibbs who once won a silver medal in the World Track Championships and won a number of Pro races in the UK back in the late 90s.

Over the weekend the Alston Homes/Qualitetch sponsored road team competed in the two day/three stages NCRA over the Middleton course on Saturday and then the Southwick course on the Sunday. This 67 miler 3rd stage including 7 ascents of the Water Tower hill was actually organized and marshalled by Ian Wild and members of the club.

Stamford’s James Gelsthorpe, fresh from his Helpston success on Thursday evening, finished second on the first stage-(a short TT) and by economic riding finished 12th overall in the general classification after the three stages.

Andy Cartledge finished 40th overall, Gareth Smith 45th and James Broadley 49th.

Deeping’s Steve Woods had an off weekend and failed to finish on the last stage though bizarrely he was listed as finishing 76th in the general classification.

Peterborough Cycling Club’s resident professional Steve Lampier contested the Beaumont Trophy race in Richmond in North Yorkshire riding for his Raleigh-GAC trade team.

Lampier finished in 13th place but won the prestigious King of the Mountains Title.
