Bourne Town’s two-goal lead is blown away
Bourne Town threw away a two-goal advantage against Stewarts & Lloyds Corby for the second time this season.
The Wakes had the slope in their favour and the gale at their backs in the first half on Tuesday night.
Kieran Blanchard’s pass sent Zak Munton away on the left and he cut back inside a covering defender to drill a low shot beyond the reach of Tom March.
Two minutes later the lead was doubled as defender James Mann sliced Craig Rook’s corner past March at the near post.
Callum Noble pulled one back but the two-goal margin was restored as Rook’s found the net via the underside of the bar with a 35-yard free-kick.
A home onslaught was expected down the slope in the second half and so it proved.
When Bourne broke out Munton and Henry Dunn combined to set up Blanchard whose shot went in off Mann, only for the assistant’s raised flag to rescue S&L.
A stunning Michael Byrne strike from 30 yards gave the Foundrymen a much-needed boost before Blanchard’s shot was saved.
The equaliser arrived after 83 minutes with Liam Boath delivering a corner from the right for Dany Reid to head powerfully past Alex Brown.
Bourne: Brown, Bottreill, D Wilson, Smith, Makepeace-Beech, Moss, Dunn, Blanchard, Munton (Jesson), Rook, Zealand (S Wilson).
The Wakes are back home on Saturday against Raunds Town.
