Uppingham hit the highest score of the second night of the annual Burghley Sixes competition.

They blasted 89 runs in their 10-run victory over Rutland rivals Market Overton with Alex Ashwin (45) and Harry Butchart (21) leading their charge.

Brian Makwana then made 45 as Marko fell just short of Town's target in the bid for a place in the quarter-finals.

Oakham are another Rutland side to make the last eight after a narrow three-run win over Castor.

Ed Tattersall thumped 51 and Sam Janes added 24 as Oakham made 85 from their five overs.

Castor's reply came up just short despite 24 from Mark Wheat.

Bourne booked their quarter-final spot after victory over Nassington.

Rob Bentley bashed 32 and Pete Morgan made 23 as Bourne scored 66 from their five overs.

Nassington made 62 in their reply as they went into the last ball of the game needing a six for victory.

Richard Morris of Nassington was awarded the night's Buckles Solicitors Champagne Moment for back-to-back boundary catches.

Tonight's matches will complete the first round with Ufford Park playing Stamford and Uffington taking on Newborough.

The first quarter-final will also be played with Oundle going up against Barnack.
