Canham wins Half Ironman age group to book World Championships place

North Luffenham triathlete Roger Canham won his age group event at the Staffordshire Half-Ironman at the weekend.

Athletes from around the globe, completed the 1.2 mile swin, 56 mile cycle and 13.1 mile run, to win a place at the Half-Ironman World Championship in Zell Am See-Kaprun, Austria, on August 30.

Canham said: “I crossed the line pretty confident I was on the podium but it wasn’t until a friend got the update from Ironmanlive that I knew I had won my first Ironman 70.3 event.”

Canham completed the swim in 32:23, the cycle in 2:39:57 and run in 1:27:06 to finish in 4:45:58, for first place in the 50-54 year old category and 54th overall.
