Captain Pete Morgan steered Bourne out of some choppy waters at the Abbey Lawns yesterday (August 10) to ensure his side remain on course for the Lincs Premier Division title.
The table-toppers were 70-4 chasing Grimsby’s 60-over total of 171-8 when Morgan was joined at the crease by Rob Bentley. They promptly added an undefeated 105 for the fifth-wicket as Bourne finished the day 27 points clear at the top with just five matches remaining.
Morgan was unbeaten on 91 at the close with Bentley on 31 not out. Bracebridge Heath look the only serious challengers for top spot after demolishing Market Deeping by 100 runs at Outgang Road.
Deeping lost veteran openers Chris Jones (1) and Dave Gillett (second-ball duck) very cheaply as they set out in pursuit of their visitors’ 273-8.
Ot took a fine knock of 79 from Tom Andrews who struck seven sixes to take Deeping to 173. Andrews had however conceded 94 runs from his 15 overs of bowling.
Spalding suffered an even bigger defeat as they crashed by 166 runs at Woodhall Spa. Only Warren Nel (36) stood firm as Spalding were routed for 99.
