Leicester Tigers stars to attend Stamford School event

The next generation of rugby players will get the opportunity to learn 'the Tigers way' when Leicester Tigers coaches head to Stamford School for a week-long rugby camp from July 22-26.

The camp has become an annual fixture for the school and last year saw Tigers and England international Manu Tuilagi surprise youngsters with a question and answer session.

The event will see Under 7s and Under 8s enjoy three morning tag rugby sessions between 9.30am and 12.30pm on July 22-24, with the Under 9s to Under 15s taking part over five full days lasting from 9.30am to 3.30pm across July 22-26.

Aspiring youngsters will receive professional coaching from Tigers qualified coaches and a glimpse into a week in the life of a rugby player, as coaches lead a mix of drills and exercises designed to develop the basics, improve fitness and have fun.

Youngsters will also get the opportunity to have a question and answer session with a Tigers player or coach as they share their secrets to making it in the game.

The region has strong rugby links with the club as former Tiger-now-academy-head-coach Matt Smith comes from Oakham as well as his dad Ian ‘Dosser’ Smith, who captained and coached with Tigers, the current schoolmaster at Oakham School.

Steve Hanna, community rugby manager at Leicester Tigers, said: “Stamford kicks off our summer camps for 2019 and we return to this popular camp looking to build on the success of the 2018 camp where Manu Tuilagi joined us for the day to answer the players questions, pose for photos and sign autographs.

"The school has strong links with Tigers in providing many players for the DPP programme over the years and it’s great to get out to members of the Tigers family with our camps.

"Tigers Rugby Camps are all about having fun, getting outside and improving your game - perfect if you're new to rugby or looking to take your game up a level."

Suitable for all abilities, players who attend the camp will also receive a free match ticket to a Tigers game during the 2019/20 season as well as Tigers branded t-shirt, ball and membership to the Junior Tigers Club. Players taking part in the full-day camp will also receive a hot lunch and refreshments.
