Stamford AFC host Northampton Town at the Zeeco Stadium

The tough tests keep coming for the Daniels who entertain League Two side Northampton Town at the Zeeco Stadium on Saturday.

After playing against Championship side Peterborough United at the Zeeco Stadium on Tuesday night, the Daniels are hosting the Cobblers in their next pre-season outing (noon kick-off).

They went down to a 4-0 home reversal against Posh and manager Graham Drury sess Saturday's clash as another good opportunity to ontinue their preparations for the new Northern Premier League Midlands Division season which starts on Saturday, August 14, with a tasty home clash with Ilkeston Town.

Boss Graham Drury said: "It doesn't get any easier, but it's a great test for us.

"It will be a good work-out and then hopefully when we go into the league season we will benefit from it.

"It will be really good for our fitness levels. We had a light training session on Thursday night which will get us ready to face another professional club in Northampton and it will be interesting to see how they are compared to Peterborough."

The Cobblers were relegated from League One last season and went down to a 2-1 home defeat in their latest pre-season friendly against West Ham United on Tuesday evening.

Manager Jon Brady has made a number of additions to his squad for the coming campaign including signing midfielder Jordan Flores on a season long loan from Hull City.

Drury added: "I am sure Northampton will be sharp. Jon Brady is a mate of mine and he's a fitness freak so he will certainly have them fit.

"We had some big players missing against Peterborough with the likes of Rob Morgan, Cosmos Matwasa, Dan Haystead and Jon Challinor.

"We may have Morgan and Matwasa back for Saturday who can give us respite by travelling with the ball up the pitch."

Admission for Saturday's match with Northampton is pay on arrival only. The cost is £8 for adults, £5 concessions, £3 for 12-17 years while Under 11s go free if accompanied by a paying adult.

Stamford's scheduled Lincolnshire Senior Cup clash with Boston United on Tuesday night has been cancelled after the Daniels were removed from the competition following their penalty shoot-out victory over Cleethorpes last weekend.

A cluib statement said: "Due to an administration error at the football club, Stamford AFC will take no further part in this season's Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup competition.

"Following the win at Cleethorpes on Saturday, July 10, Stamford AFC were due to entertain Boston Utd in the next round of the cup which was due to take place on Tuesday. This game has now been cancelled."

Deeping Rangers are in action at the Haydon Whitham Stadium on Saturday when hosting Southern League side St Neots (3pm).

Blackstones entertain Stamford Bels at the Torney Limited Stadium (3pm) while Bourne Town take on Lincoln United's Development Squad with the match being played at the rugby club on Milking Nook Drove (1.30pm).
