Stamford AFC retain the services of Connor Bartle and Joe Burgess
Manager Graham Drury has praised the ‘unbelievable commitment’ of his players to the club after full-backs Joe Burgess and Connor Bartle became the latest to re-sign for the Daniels.
The duo have followed Cosmos Matwasa, Tendai Chitza, Rob Morgan, Sean Wright and James Blunden in agreeing to stay at Stamford for another term.
A number of Drury’s squad have had offers from elsewhere during the close season with Burgess and Bartle the latest to reject moves and stay at the Zeeco Stadium.
The Stamford manager said: “I am over the moon that both Connor and Joe are staying at the club.
“Connor has loved every minute of his time here and, when offers from other teams came in, he just told them straight away that he's signing for Stamford again.
“Connor has been brilliant for us since day one. He's a leader and has an unbelievable left foot. His assists are high and he enjoys setting goals up for his team-mates. He can also chip in with goals as well.
“I am so, so chuffed with the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch and I feel this is another top signing for us.”
Bartle joined the Daniels at the start of last season after spells with Basford and Grantham while Burgess’ versatility has been a big asset since he first joined in 2017.
Drury continued: “Joe has played centre midfield most of his time for us, but I feel he’s one heck of a full back with his energy to get forward and his ability to cross a ball. He will be another key member of this squad.
“Joe again, like a few of our lads, turned down silly offers from a club at this level and also a decent offer from a level above.
“He also has eyes for goals and one season was our top scorer. I believe from full-back he will add plenty for the team.
“It is once again unbelievable commitment from another top lad and top player.
“I honestly can't thank my players enough for sticking with the team and to be still playing for us again this season.”
With seven of last season’s squad now re-signed, Stamford also added to their ranks with the capture of Rodrigo Silva Goncalves last week.
