Cottesmore have bounced back from successive defeats with a victory double.

The Rutland side followed up Saturday's 1-0 home win over Desford in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division with a 3-0 away success at Ashby Ivanhoe Knights on Wednesday night.

Kieran Burley bagged a brace for Cottesmore before an ankle injury curtailed his involvement in the game ahead of Mark Tinsley's late strike which secured the three points after a lengthy midweek trip.

Manager Rich Giblin said: "It was one of those games where if you go over and do job and come back with the points then it's all worthwhile.

"It was a good performance because it was a bit of a rush to get over there and we struggled slightly with availability but we got the job done which was the main thing."

Cottesmore had started well with wingers Morgan Heppleston and Baris Topaloglu prominent in the opening exchanges.

They had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down following a foul on Tinsley before taking a worthy lead.

A corner sparked a scramble in the home penalty area and Shaun Denigan prodded the ball forward for Burley to score from close range.

Burley twice went close to increasing the lead before the break as Cottesmore fended off a flurry of late corners to preserve their advantage at the interval.

The next goal was always going to be crucial and Cottesmore had a great chance to double their lead when Burley was brought down in the box in the second half but Tinsley saw his spot kick well saved.

A goalline clearance from Chris Shaw then prevented Ashby from levelling and Cottesmore then went straight on the offensive and got the vital second goal when Morgan Heppleston's cross picked out Burley to convert with a good finish.

The visitors then added a third late on as Topaloglu burst forward before teeing up Tinsley to rifle home and put the contest beyond their hosts with the last action of the game.

The victory keeps Cottesmore in fourth spot, just a point behind third-placed Thurnby with a game in hand.

They now travel to Quorn on Saturday where they face the ProChance Academy before making the trip to Desford on Tuesday night.
