Cottesmore Amateurs Reserves came back from the short trip to Sileby Town Reserves on Saturday with a 1-0 victory to move them up the City Goldsmith league table to 10th.

Cottesmore lined up with a changed 11 from the side that had played at Ingles two weeks earlier with Nathan Clare coming into the side in goal and Carl Brierly-Lewis making his debut at right back.

The game started brightly with both sides looking to play football, Sileby were busy down the wings and looking to run at the visitors while Cottesmore were working as a unit and putting the home side under pressure on the counter attack.

With both sides having half chances it looked to be only a matter of time before the game saw a goal and on the half hour mark this came when Carnall picked up a loose ball about 25 yards out and before any of the opposing defenders could get close he perfectly lobbed the Sileby keeper to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. This was shortly followed by Tyler Smith driving a ball across the box to Carnall but he was unlucky to see his shot come back off the cross bar. Cottesmore then fought off a Sileby fight back to make it into the break one up.

The second half was more in favour of the home side and Cottesmore had to soak up pressure from the off. Goalkeeper Clare pulled off a string of impressive saves to keep the home side at bay and there was also a spot of luck when Carl Hamnett threw himself at the ball to clear off the line and the ball flicked up onto the bar from his head.

Cottesmore did have chances to wrap the game up, one where Smith went through and squared to Carnall but he saw the keeper make a decent save with his legs and in the final moments Smith went through again and was blatantly brought down by the last man however the referee did not see fit to book the player stating it as an accidental foul.

Cottesmore saw the game out and set themselves up nicely for the visit of Barlestone St Giles on Saturday.

Cottesmore Amateur Reserves: Clare, Brierly-Lewis, Bullimore, Wood, Hamnett, Wilson, Richards, Challis (Crowden), T De’Ath (Lysandrou), T Smith, Carnall.
