Cottesmore AFC, Ketton, Oakham United and Uppingham Town are taking part in the Rutland Cup competition

The countdown is on for the return of the Rutland Cup competition after this week’s draw pitted Cottesmore against Ketton with Oakham facing Uppingham in the other semi-final match.

The ties were drawn on Monday evening by competition organiser Stewart Lambie and representatives from the Pepper’s mental health scheme in Oakham who will be the first charity to benefit from what will hopefully be an annual event.

The matches will take place at Oakham United on Saturday, July 10, with Cottesmore and Ketton starting at 1pm and then Uppingham playing the hosts at 4pm. The final will be staged at Lands’ End Meadow on Saturday, July 24.

The tournament is returning after a 24-year absence with the original trophy up for grabs which was last won by Cottesmore.

The event has already attracted a number of sponsors with Crown Tavern sports bar, Titans Building Services Limited, Rutland Late Night Pharmacy, Lisa Baines of Polished, Bee Bee Beauty, BEfit Gymnasium, Bill’s Bar, Orbis of Oakham, BBS Fencing Ltd and Chris’ Childcare supporting it.

Maccsports have also agreed to donate four match balls and anyone interested in sponsorship should email Stewart on stew1404@hotmail.com for details.
