UPPINGHAM were well beaten at March in one of the few Rutland League matches to beat the weather on Sunday.

March won the toss and opened their innings with their overseas player, Australian Ryan Meyer who made a handy 70 runs.

David Hodson added 11 before Meyer and Shardul Brahmbhatt (42) put on a third wicket partnership of 93 runs until Meyer was caught by a superb diving catch from Max Collins.

Brahmbhatt quickly followed lbw to Colan Bartram with the March score on 139 for 4.

Scott Welcher added an unbeaten 17 to help March to a final score of 181 for 8 from their 45 overs.

Ben Collins took 4 for 58, Bartram 2 for 26 runs, and Stu Lambie 1 for 25.

Uppingham were then made to rue dropped catches early in the March innings as they were skittled for 101.

Opener Adi Salt made 15 but Mark Cox lost his wicket to the first ball he faced with the score on 2.

Henry King (19), batting at three, helped Salt to steady the ship but the introduction of Meyer’s spin bowling changed the game. He took 7 for 38 with only Colan Bartram (19) and Neil Wedge (18) putting up any resistance to the Aussie as Uppingham were bowled out in 37 overs.

Uppingham’s batting let them down and some batting practice in the new four lane nets is vital before this weekend’s game at Stamford Town.

l YAXLEY conceded their game to Ketton in Division three.

l MARKET Overton 2nd XI’s game against Wakerley and Barrowden was cancelled due to the weather.
