Holders to get Burghley Sixes underway on opening night
Current Burghley Sixes holders Oundle Town will start their title defence with a clash against Empingham in this year's competition.
The BGL Cricket week event runs from Monday to Friday, July 6, and Oundle will kick-start the action on an opening night which also features matches between Market Deeping against Barnack and Ketton Sports taking on hosts Burghley Park.
The Tuesday tussles sees Nassington play Bourne, Uppingham go up against Market Overton with Castor facing Oakham.
The opening quarter-final takes place on Wednesday night after the first round matches between Ufford Park against Stamford Town and Uffington and Newborough are completed.
The three remaining quarter-finals will be on Thursday night before the semi-finals and final on Friday.
Burghley Park will also be taking on a visiting side each day from 10.30am (11am on Friday).
Returning visiting sides include the Authors XI, Gentlemen of Lincolnshire, Gentlemen of West Norfolk and MCC, along with the addition of an ECB Staff XI playing against the club to open the week on Monday.
The event is a firm favourite on the local cricketing calendar with event organisers promising that it will be even bigger and better than last year.
It has new title sponsors in the BGL Group while Buckles will also awarding a ‘champagne moment’ each night to see who has performed well.
The ever-popular Konnexx bar will be providing refreshments in the Cabel UK beer tent, provided by Stamford Marquees, throughout the week stocking a large variety of local real ales, such as Oakham Ales, as well as plenty from further afield too as part of the club's annual beer festival.
For the non-ale drinkers there will be Adnams champagne, wine and gin on offer too. A barbeque, run by Beetroot catering, will be on hand to serve food throughout the week. The club would like to remind all that no alcohol will be permitted to be brought into the ground this year.
