A knock of 73 in just 46 balls by Zeeshan Manzoor could not prevent Ketton losing by five wickets at home to Foxton on Saturday in the Cambs League Premier Division.

By the time Manzoor came to bat at number six in the order his side were in trouble having lost two of their wickets for ducks, Shakir Mahmood and Josh Gallimore the unlucky men.

Ashley Rodgers (15) and Peter Rowe (13) faced 136 balls between them but could only score 28 runs between them as the run rate ran at a trickle. Hence the fast scoring approach of Manzoor who saw the game slipping away from them.

Ulricht Van Duyker added 20 and Jacob Miller, at number nine in the order, hit 21 to help their big hitter. Manzoor scored five sixes and seven fours during his stint at the crease but in the end Ketton were bowled out in the 49th over for 172.

Alex Hooley was the pick of the bowlers with 2-18 from three overs, which included Manzoor.

Foxton’s reply started poorly, with opener Adam Webster out for four, caught behind by wicket keeper Jabob Miller from the bowling of Shakir Mahmood.

But Cei Sanderson (46) and Alex Hooley (59) added 89 before Van Duyker dismissed Sanderson, trapped lbw.

Foxton had a couple of batsmen come and go quickly, Rowe dismissing Lawrence Farnum for one, thanks to a catch from Gallimore and Jeffery Douglas was out for the same score after he was run out by Miller.

But Yannick Elliot (37 not out) and David Fagan (10 not out) got Foxton to the 175 they required with five wickets to spare.

At this early stage in the season Ketton are second from bottom of the league, having been promoted last season, but just three points from safety.
