Cox guides Uppingham to home victory in rain-affected clash
Oakham continued their stunning start to the new Leicestershire League campaign with a 31-run win over previously-unbeaten Newtown Linford on Saturday.
Ed Tattersall was the star of a fourth successive Division One win for Oakham after top-scoring with 91 and then taking 3-28 to seal the victory.
The match had been reduced to 39 overs due to the wet weather and Oakham overcame the early departure of skipper Richard Martin to post 219-9.
Rob Taylor (14) and Sean Cowley (20) gave Tattersall support before Shyam Lakhani (17) and Edward Siddle (29no) saw them to their final total.
Newton Linford looked in a strong position at one stage through the efforts of Dean Scaysbrook (48) and Tom Oliver (42).
However, Rory Brown and Tattersall took the wickets that broke up that partnership before Oakham turned the screw.
Taylor took 3-23 from seven overs which, with Tattersall's three wicket haul, left the hosts 31-runs short of their target.
The victory leaves Oakham joint top of the fledgling standings with Loughborough Carillon the only other side with a maximum 100-point haul from the first four games.
Uppingham were five-wicket home winners over Leicester Ivanhoe 2nds in another match affected by the elements.
They bowled out their visitors to Castle Hill for 180 before reaching their rain-reduced of 162 in 37 overs.
A couple of early wickets from Nathan Hall and an Alex Ashwin run out had left Ivanhoe in trouble on 22-3 at the early stage of their innings after being put into bat.
However, half-centuries from Alex Carrie (50) and Ollie Winder (52no) brought Ivanhoe back into the contest.
Scott Green and Josh Carrington then claimed a couple of wickets each with Ashwin and Hall also adding a run out apiece to dismiss the visitors for 180.
Uppingham lost Sam Hodson early in their reply, but a match-winning stand of 105 for the second wicket between Ben Farnsworth (59) and Carrington (45) proved crucial.
Despite losing a couple of wickets towards the end of their run chase, the experienced Mark Cox helped guide Town home with an unbeaten 29 not out which came off just 32 balls and included three fours and a six.
Market Overton went down to a nine-wicket away defeat at Bharat Sports 2nds in Division Five East after being bowled out for 79.
Oakham 2nds lost by seven wickets in the same division to Leicester Banks 2nds who successfully chased down to Rutlanders’ 139-9.
Uppingham 2nds were on the wrong end of a nine-wicket away reversal at Cosby 2nds in Division Seven East after being dismissed for 74.
Ketton Sports 2nds went down to a 39-run defeat away at Bitteswell in their Division Nine East clash.
Ketton Sports' home Division Three clash with Loughborough Greenfields and Wakerley and Barrowden's game with Langtons 3rds in Division Nine East were cancelled due to the wet weather.
