Uppingham’s losing run in Division One of the Rutland League continued on Sunday at home to March.
Batting first March scored freely in the early overs reaching 64 runs for two wickets. At 15 overs, the introduction of Colan Bartram, two wickets for 16 from eight overs, and Danny Dumford, one 1 wicket for 26 runs from his first nine overs, slowed the run rate down and at 30 overs March had reached 104 for the loss of four wickets.
Josh Jackman (89) and Tyler Phillips (31) runs pushed the March score on to 167 at 40 overs and the lower order batsmen gave March a final score of 208 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Bartram was the pick of the Uppingham bowlers with two wickets for 16 and Scott Green with two wickets for 35 again showed Uppingham’s need for another good slow bowler.
Uppingham’s early order batsmen struggled against the hostile March opening bowlers, Tyler Phillips, one wicket for 14 runs from six overs and Callum Young, one wicket for 35 runs from seven overs.
Mark Cox (32) and Ben Harford (25) batted solidly in the middle order, but Uppingham’s last five wickets fell for just 15 runs to the bowling of James Harradine, three wickets for 17 runs and Tom Nulty, three wickets for 10 runs, Uppingham all out for just 137 runs.
