Stamford Boxing Club’s Matt Cross will be aiming to land a coveted national title this weekend.

Cross will be in action at Romford in Essex on Sunday when he fights in the final of the national 71kg category.

He secured his place in the final last weekend with another impressive victory against Vinny Gibbons from the Honour and Glory Boxing Club.

While his London opponent was extremely strong, the result was never in doubt as Cross very quickly established a rhythm behind his ramrod-like jab.

Cross remained focused and out-boxed his opponent from range in the first two rounds before letting the heavy artillery go in the third which forced his opponent around the ring.

The unanimous points victory had followed up Cross’ career-best performance the previous weekend where he had defeated an unbeaten puncher from London’s Joes Boxing Academy before beating the highly-rated Riva Leigh-Jones, a former national junior champion from the East Coast ABC in
Lowestoft.
