Oakham United’s run in the Hinchingbrooke Cup came to an end on Tuesday when they were knocked out by higher league opponents Yaxley.

Thanks to an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Simon Dalton and some luck at times ,UCL Division side Oakham only lost to the Premier Division side by a single goal, scored in the 57th minute but Jack Saunders.

Dalton made some outstanding saves to keep his side in the tie however he was well protected for much of the match at In2itive Park by the excellent defence of Matt Holland, Kris Kefford, Dan Jenkins and Gav Cook, who largely restricted the hosts to shots from distance. United had their chances, former Yaxley player Lewis Leckie had the ball in net after half an hour played but he was called offside.
