Manager Graham Drury is pleased to see his Stamford side scoring goals from all areas of the pitch as they prepare for a tough finish to their pre-season programme.

The Daniels have netted 28 times in six pre-season outings while conceding eight goals in their friendly matches.

They bounced back from the previous weekend's below-par performance at Quorn by beating an injury-ravaged Melton Town 7-1 on Saturday with goals from Jonathan Margetts (three), Connor Furey (two), Connor Bartle and James Blunden.

That's was backed up with a 5-0 home success on Tuesday night against a youthful side from League Two Stevenage who fielded eight scholars, two academy graduates and a trialist in their starting line-up.

Margetts was again on target with a brace along with Jack Duffy, Harry Olivant and a trialist.

Manager Drury said: "I would like to thank Stevenage for coming and it was unfortunate with the timing ahead of their league season starting on Saturday that they couldn't bring the first team.

"Steve Evans (Stevenage manager) was very complimentary of the ground and pitch and they were a youthful and energetic side who probably kept the ball better than we did.

"We're still not as fluent in our passing or keeping possession as well as I would like at the moment, but I guess that's pre-season with the team always changing for different circumstances.

"Our physicality and finishing power was the difference. We've scored 28 goals in six games and conceded just eight so we should be buzzing and it's been nice to see different players scoring goals which has always been our forte.

"Margetts has picked up where he left off but we're not just relying on the one person because we are continuing to score from all over which is pleasing."

Stamford continue their pre-season programme with a trip to Worksop Town on Saturday (3pm) before hosting near neighbours Grantham Town on Tuesday night in the opening round of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup in what is expected to be two tough tests.

Drury commented: "We have got three really tough games now with Cleethorpes coming up the following weekend.

"All three are going for promotion this year and they will be big tests."
