Stamford finally found their finishing touch to run out comfortable 3-0 home victors over Romulus at the Zeeco Stadium on Saturday.

Goals have been in short supply for the Daniels so far this season, but strikes from Jake Duffy, Eliot Putman and Rob Morgan secured their second EvoStik League Division One South success of the season.

The Daniels produced some excellent football which delighted assistant boss Danny Hussey who was in charge with manager Graham Drury abroad on best man duties at a family wedding.

Hussey said: “I was really pleased. The performance was great, especially in the second half.

“We passed the ball well and it was a pleasure to watch.

“This sort of performance has been brewing and we wanted to be pro-active after the way we played at Cleethorpes on Wednesday night.

“We went out there with the same work ethic and the boys all came off at the end with smiles on their faces.

“Getting an early goal took a bit of the pressure off the boys and some of the football we played was a joy to watch.”

It took Stamford just seven minutes to break the deadlock as a fine run and cross from Jordan Smith picked out Duffy who slotted home the opening goal.

The lead was doubled 10 minutes later and this time Duffy was the provider as he whipped in a cross which fell into the path of Putman who fired home into the bottom corner,

Stamford then had the ball in the net for a third time shortly after, but Delroy Gordon’s effort was ruled out for offside.

Loanee Liam Adams then charged down a clearance from Romulus goalkeeper Billy Spink with the rebound flying narrowly wide of the goal.

Romulus launched several long balls and throws into the Stamford box, but Max Smith-Varnum stood up to the test well and showed excellent handling to gather an effort from Malachi Farquharson.

Smith was just over as Stamford searched for a third goal which eventually came 10 minutes into the second period.

A slick passing move saw Putman first denied by a smart save from Spink with Duffy then lashing a shot against the crossbar with the rebound falling for Rob Morgan to bravely head home.

Smith and Putman went close to extending Stamford’s lead while Jon Challinor - a half-time substitute for Ben George who was withdrawn after suffering a bout of dizziness - also shot wide as Stamford strolled to a much-needed victory which moves them up to 12th place in the league standings.

The only downside on a good day for the Daniels was striker Jack Jeys being forced off injured shortly after coming on as a substitute with a reoccurence of the knee problem that has plagued his time with the club.

Stamford: Smith-Varnam, George (Challinor), Putman, Armstrong, Gordon, Eze, Hill, Duffy, Smith, Adams (Jeys, King), Morgan. Not used: Hollis, Sandy.
