Stamford AFC’s opening pre-season game against Conference club Lincoln City on Saturday has been called off following concerns about the Borderville pitch.

Despite having a sprinkler system in place the Daniels’ ground staff have been struggling to water the pitch sufficiently because of a problem with the water pressure at the new £5m ground.

That combined with the recent hot weather means the grass has grown slower than expected in areas which have been reseeded in the off-season and it is not in a fit state to be played on.

The club said Anglia Water will be fixing addressing the water pressure problems this week.

Stamford’s next scheduled home game is Histon on July 25.
