Deeping and Burghley progress in the KO Cup

Market Deeping got the better of near neighbours Stamford Town in the opening round of the Stamford Charity Cup thanks to an incredible 175-run stand by their opening batsman.

Deeping beat Stamford by 40 runs after Alex Wheatley (84) and Emile Kreik (83) dispatched the Town bowlers around the park on Monday night in the Twenty/20 competition.

Deeping finished on 178-2 and then the bowlers kept Stamford to 138-8 despite Tim Juggins hitting 54 not out.

Next up for Market Deeping in the knock-out competition is a quarter-final showdown with A15 rivals Bourne, who were given a bye in the first round. Bourne seem to have got Deeping’s number this season, having already beaten them in the Winkworth Cup and they will also meet in the Jaidka Cup on Wednesday.

Burghley Park also progressed on Monday with a four wicket win over Ufford Park.

Burghley won the toss and put the hosts, Ufford, into bat.

They made 147-5, with Burghley skipper Michael Jones taking three of the Ufford wickets for 40 runs.

Jack Fischer’s 58 helped Park reach their target.

Nassington beat Barnack by six wickets to set-up a semi-final with Burghley Park.

Nassington reached 89-4 thanks to 43 runs from Tom Norman and then 15 year-old Harrison Craig took three wickets for 14.

The quarter-finals will be played on June 1.
