Market Deeping based part-time fireman Steve Wood had an impressive weekend of cycle racing to finish eighth in the two-day three stage Rockingham Forest stage race in Middleton Village

Wood teamed up with his Qualitetch Alston Country Homes sponsored team mate Gareth Smith to take part in the event.

The Deeping cyclist rode strongly over the two days with an excellent eighth place in the third stage helping him to eighth overall.

Smith rode strongly on both days but his luck run out again on the last lap of the final stage when he suffered yet another puncture forcing him to abandon. Nick Berwick and James Boardley also contested the race but faded away before the finish.

Elsewhere Bourne’s Jason Burrill finished 18th overall in the Condor three-day event, even after taking some flying lessons on the first stage with just a 100m to go to the finish. Fortunately he had a soft landing in the crash.
