A hat-trick and a skipper’s knock when it was most needed steered Market Deeping to a three wicket victory against Bourne on Saturday.
Mehul Adatia’s hat-trick wrecked Bourne’s innings, triggering a batting collapse which cost Bourne their final five wickets without any addition to their tally of 148.
Ben Stroud and Conrad Louth had given Bourne some momentum at Outgang Road, with 46 and 40 respectively after skipper Pete Morgan’s early run out for 7. But with four players going for a duck, the Abbey Lawn side failed to set Deeping a steep enough target.
Adatia finished with 4 for 29 off his 12 over spell and Kamran Raza also took four wickets, in his case for 31 off 9.3 overs.
Deeping’s reply wasn’t always the most convincing with a smattering of cheap wickets of their own but skipper David Gillett struck a match-winning unbeaten 68 to steer his side past to victory, their fourth in six matches in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League.
Deeping sit second in the table, three points behind the leaders, while Bourne need to pick up points soon if they are to challenge for honours this season. Right now, they are languishing third bottom with an alarming loss of form since their opening day victory against Sleaford.
Bourne are competing in the Twenty20 Winkworth Cup at Sleaford where the semi-finals and final will take place today. Bourne’s semi-final against Skegness starts at 10.30am this morning.
Bourne host Bracebridge Heath in the league on Saturday while Market Deeping will travel to Sleaford.
