Scott Mooney’s first-half double secured a hat-trick of wins for Deeping Rangers to sign off 2015 in style.

The striker took his tally to 16 goals so far this term as they beat Boston Town on Monday.

Mooney – who decided to stay at Deeping following an approach from Stamford – fired a low shot past former Rangers goalkeeper James Doughty and then made it 2-0 with a far-post header.

Boss Michael Goode said: “It was a really good all-round performance.

“I think Boston are in a false position because they have got quality all over the pitch. We did a good job against them on a poor pitch.

“In the first half we played good football, scored twice and should have been 3-0 up as Scott Coupland had a couple of chances.

Three wins on the trot set us up nicely going into the new year. We are well ahead on our games if bad weather comes with points in the bag.

“We were well on top and in the second half we showed the different side to our character by defending well.

“December looked to be a tricky month against the top four teams plus Harrowby United and Boston.

“We’ve taken 12 points out of 18 and those three wins in a row have come in different scenarios.

“We’ve played good football, come out on top after a dodgy spell, dominated away from home and looked solid at the back.”

Deeping make the trip to Cogenhoe United on Saturday (2pm kick-off).

Skipper David Burton-Jones is available again after serving a one-match ban while Tom Palmer completes his three-game supension.

Luke Avis is unavailable but Deeping have brought in Peterborough United youth-team players Ollie Humphrey, Joe Hood and Ben Keating.

New signing Chris Hibbitt will make his debut following a move from Kirby Muxloe.

Deeping: Bircham, Flack, Smith, Tinkler, Cotton (sub Humphrey), Hunnings, Dunn, Avis, Mooney (sub Hood), Coupland, Bird (sub Goldson-Williams).
