Burghley Park Cricket Club make cup progress after derby win in the Hunts League

Burghley Park are chasing a cup double after securing two final spots this week.

They defeated Bourne on Monday night in the semi-final of the Stamford KO Shield after a recording a nine-run success.

The hosts had elected to bat first and Mark Saunders and Alex Ashwin both top-scored with 24 for Burghley who were bowled out for 97.

Tom Dixon was the pick of the Bourne attack with 3-18 while Rob Bentley and Adam Hilless both took two wickets each.

Bentley made 26 and Sam Evison added 23 in the Bourne reply but they were bowled out for 88 as Caius Headley took 3-9 for Burghley while Mo Azhar claimed 3-22.

They followed their victory up on Wednesday night by defeating City in the last four of the Stamford Charity Cup.

Ashwin top-scored with an unbeaten 43 while Headley hit 39 after Pete Foster had made 22 as Park posted 157-8 from their 20 overs.

Headley then took 4-15 and Sam Potter pocketed 2-24 as City were bowled out for 116.

They will face Bourne in the final of the Charity Cup while the KO Shield clash will be against Peterborough Town at Ketton Sports on Monday, June 27.

Burghley had maintained their unbeaten start to the Hunts League Division One season with a derby victory over Barnack on Saturday.

The five-wicket win was a third successive victory for Burghley with top teenage talent Caius Headley again starring for the hosts.

Headley took 5-28 from seven overs as Barnack were bowled out for 209 after being put into bat.

Mo Azhar claimed 2-37 and Joe Youngs 2-45 with Barnack’s experienced opener Ajaz Akhtar top-scoring for the visitors with 85 which featured 19 boundaries.

Chris Armstrong then led the Burghley run chase by hitting 15 fours in his 84 while Charlie Thain helped form a 111-run partnership for the third wicket before falling two runs short of his half-century.

Sam Potter then plundered 12 boundaries in his unbeaten 62 not out off just 40 deliveries as Burghley triumphed in the 39th over.

Nassington remain among the leading lights in Division Two after a 118-run home victory over Sandy.

Solid showings from Daniel Anslow (45), Phil Lewis (20), Imran Maqbool (36), Faiz Taj (46no) and Arbas Nawaz (26no) helped Nassington post 233-4 from their 45 overs.

The second-placed hosts then bowled out Sandy for 115 with Maqbool (3-30), Nawaz (3-10) and Holly Hammond-Lewis (3-18) in fine form.

Burghley Park 2nds made it a double-winning weekend for the club with an eight-wicket victory against Waresley in Division Three.

They dismissed their hosts for 162 with Simon Sherwin starring with 3-6 from six overs which featured three maidens.

Daniel Pellett also returned 3-47 for Burghley who reached the required target inside 27 overs.

Opener Andy Briault top-scored with 55 before Arsalan Maqsood (51no) and Liam Morgan (27no) steered them home.

Barnack 2nds secured their first win of the Division Four campaign after a 57-run victory against Ickwell.

Amir Mughal had top-scored with 68 while Yaseen Muhammad made 37 and Muhammad Sohail struck 33 as Barnack made 235 after batting first.

Muhammed then took 3-39 from eight overs as Ickwell were restricted to 178-9 from their 40 overs in reply.

Ufford Park were beaten by eight wickets in their Cambs League Division Two match at Saffron Walden 2nds.

They were bowled out for 124 after batting first with Wahid Javed (57) and Hugo Bell (31) their top scorers with Saffron securing the win inside 27 overs.
