Disappointing day for Deeping Rangers

Deeping Rangers will want to forget this disappointing performance very quickly as another three points slipped through their hands on Kirby Muxloe’s first-ever visit to the Haydon Whitham Stadium.

In a game of few goal threats, the deciding effort is one that goalkeeper Danny Bircham and stand-in skipper Spencer Tinkler will not want to recall.

A left-wing cross to the far post saw Dan Sheahan head back across goal where Bircham parried the ball.

As it fell towards the line both Bircham and Tinkler assumed the other player was going to react until neither was able to stop the ball going in.

Rangers had seen a couple of Scott Mooney attempts saved by Warren Butlin – one was a fine top corner save from a free-kick while the other was a shot that struck the chest of the keeper.

Pradeep Bahrey had flashed a cross-shot over the face of the home goal while David Wesseldine’s ball inside Tom Smith for Wade Ball saw Luke Hunnings make a good block.

As Rangers chased an equaliser Mooney sent in a cross to the far post where Chris Hibbitt could only head at Butlin.

Kirby had a good chance when Ball fed Aaron Love who set up Sheahan to fire wide.

In the second half Hibbitt met Scott Coupland’s corner, only to find the top of the net.

Muxloe had a similar chance when Tyler Love met Bahrey’s corner to head high while Luis Cabril tried to outfox Bircham with a deep free-kick.

The best chances fell to the visitors as Tyler Love drove too high and substitute Ryan Seal’s effort brought a fine save from Bircham.

Deeping: Bircham, Flack, Smith, Hibbitt (sub Burton-Jones 68 mins), Tinkler, Hunnings, Dunn (sub Semple 62 mins), Avis, Mooney, Coupland, Goldson-Williams (sub Humphrey 80 mins). Subs not used: Hood, Bird.

Deeping are back in action at Northampton Spencer on Saturday.
