Local Ketton boy, Tom Hattee, recently picked up not one but two gold medals at the East Midlands Series Triathlon awards in Derby at the end of October.

Eleven year old Stamford Schoolboy, Tom, who trains with the Ketton Panthers, was one of three athletes representing the East Midlands age 11-12 male team having won his place through consistent strong performances during the season.

Tom won gold for the region in his category (TS2 male age 11-12) following his wins at events throughout the season gaining maximum points.

Coach Becca Watt said: “Tom has raced against some of the best junior triathletes in the UK, this was a big win for him.”

As well as his individual achievement, Tom was part of the team who competed against 12 other GB regions to win a team gold at the Inter-regional Championships also at Mallory Park.

Tom was presented with his gold medals by international triathlete, Sophie Coldwell, who is part of the prestigious ‘British Triathlon World Class Podium Potential Squad’

More than 100 members from across Rutland and Stamford make up the Ketton Junior Panthers aged between 4 - 16.

The aim of the club is to provide children with friendly, fun training sessions to improve running, cycling and swimming skills as well as general fitness.

The volunteer-run club, caters for all abilities and, although some children prefer not to compete, the end goal is the challenge of competing in local and national triathlon
