Rutland Water Golf Club stages its annual Captain's Day competition
The annual Captain’s Day competition took place Rutland Water Golf Club last weekend.
Gents captain Vinny Keefe and lady skipper Pam Hall welcomed more than 125 members to play in the stableford event and in doing so raised in excess of £1,000 for their chosen charities.
On a very windy day, the scoring was nothing short of excellent.
Teeing off from the friendly, shorter, yellow tees, it was 18-year-old Ollie Drakard who stole the show with a magnificent score of 43 points to claim a three shot victory.
Ollie, playing off his 12 handicap, posted a gross 78 which included two twos on the par three fourth and the par three 17th as well as a birdie three on the 11th hole.
Big-hitting Drakard’s handicap was cut to 10.6 as a result and has come down from a 16 handicap in recent weeks thanks to some consistently good scores.
There was a tie for second with four people all scoring 40 points and they included Kevin Jackson (second on countback), Andy Ker (third on countback), John Dryland (fourth on countback) and David Webb (fifth on countback).
The best ladies score on the day was tied between Sasha Weightman and Sara Glover who both scored a solid 37 points, edging out Helen Weightman by a point on 36.
Credit must go to all those who took part as well as all the sponsors who helped raise all the money for the charities.
Thanks must also go to club owner Steve Makey for the golf course and providing the members and their guests with a free barbecue after play.
Captain Keefe commented: “It was another excellent turn-out.
“The support I receive every year is amazing and I would like to thank all the members for their continued support.”
