Empingham’s Oldroyd has good catch at Rutland Water

The strong winds last week disrupted boat fishing at Rutland Water however on one of the calmer days Ron Oldroyd of Empingham had a cracking day with eight fish.

Ron fished Loch Style and said he found plenty of fish in many areas, fishing close in to the shoreline with nymphs and fry patterns. Among those fish caught were two large Browns which were safely returned to the water. Anglers fishing on the rudder struggled to find fish. Fish are moving closer in to the shoreline in search of fry, corixa, snails and shrimps.

Bank anglers are again catching fish close in. Anglers prepared to keep on the move have had most success. However, in calm conditions the Normanton bank from the church is the place to be with fish very close in to the bank. Other areas to try are East Creek, the bays on the peninsula, Whitwell Creek and Ernie’s Point.

The Fur and Feather match will be fished on Sunday, December 6 and bookings are being taken.

Around 15 boats will be available in December and January. During December and January boats will not be available on Mondays or Tuesdays.
