PLAYER availability was once again a major factor in a weekend of erratic results for Oakham.
Missing several regulars including skipper Sean Cowley and all-rounder Steve Mendes, Oakham were skittled for just 96 by Loughborough COB in division three of the Everards Leicestershire League on Saturday.
The Loughborough side remain one position below Oakham and were one of the sides the Rutlanders would have hoped to have picked up points against. Instead the Carillon Old Boys reached their target within 20 overs.
Oakham’s Saturday 2nds fared better picking up points in a winning draw against Lutterworth 3rds in division seven.
Star of the day was opening batsman Graeme Cooper, who carried his bat for 142. Rupert Inglesant added 41 as Oakham made 268-7. But Lutterworth’s resistance was stubborn and although Oakham restricted them to 201, they failed to grab the final wicket to claim victory.
A massive 651 runs were scored at the Lime Kilns on Sunday when Oakham met Kings Keys in division two of the Rutland League.
Sam Wills (123) and James Booth (104no) both passed the hundred mark but the hosts were still defeated at the Lime Kilns.
Z Manjoor finished unbeaten on 204 for the visitors who racked up 366-5. Oakham did themselves no favours by dropping the big-hitting Manjoor on four occasions.
l OAKHAM Cricket Club will hold a celebration of its children’s cricket school with the club’s junior awards presentations on Sunday.
An U8s match will take place in late morning before trophies and prizes are handed out. Among this year’s highlights has been the success of the U9 side who ended their season unbeaten to claim the league title.
