UPPINGHAM Cricket Club has two cracking one-off fixtures lined up - including an international match - as they settle in at the Castle Hill Ground.
A Norwegian Xl, playing under the name, The Bislett Ducks, will visit on Saturday and an MCC team will visit on Bank Holiday Monday at the end of May.
The arrival of Oslo’s Viking cricketers is down to former Uppingham and Oakham cricketer, and past landlord of The Vaults in Uppingham, John Pearson and his brother, Steve, who now lives in Norway.
John will roll back the years and don his whites for a 30 over game that will pit the Bislett Ducks against an Uppingham side featuring former stars Charlie Scott, John and Michael Clarke, and John Tilley. Saturday’s match starts at 2.30pm.
A return fixture in Oslo is being planned for the beginning of next season.
Nine days later, an MCC select side will take on Uppingham’s 1st XI after the official opening of the new ground by former secretary of Leicestershire CCC, Mike Turner MBE. The opening ceremony will take place at 11am.
The club will host the match to thank everybody who has helped to make the ground move possible. Hot food and drinks will be available throughout the day and junior cricket practise sessions will take place during the day to give spectators an opportunity to polish up their skills.
