Eynesbury extend their unbeaten run at Deeping Rangers

Deeping Rangers were the latest side to suffer at the hands of the UCL Premier Division’s form side Eynesbury Rovers.

Rangers were beaten 2-0 at the Haydon Whitham Stadium, as the visitors extended their unbeaten run to 12 games, dating back to November 10.

This was a match ruined by the swirling wind but Eynesbury mastered the conditions best.

That said, the hosts had the best of the opening chances, Scott Coupland firing wide of the post before Scott Mooney cleared the crossbar with a shot.

Midway through the first half Rovers opened the scoring. Eliot Bentley fed the ball to Daril Ngwala who flicked it over the attempted challenge of Spencer Tinkler to create space for the striker to turn and smash a shot into the corner past Danny Bircham from the edge of the box.

Coupland had a late chance to level for Deeping before the break but dragged his shot wide.

Rangers were living dangerously at the start of the second half, Lee Bassett shooting wide for Eynesbury before Alex Marsh only just put a lobbed shot over the bar.

Bircham then had to make a good save to stop replacement Matt Bannister scoring but he could do little to prevent Tom Coles doubling the lead in the 68th minute. A poor clearance by the Deeping defence, which failed to clear the 18-yard box, was finished past Bircham who was stuck in no-man’s land.

There was no way back into the game for Deeping who dropped down one place to fourth with the loss.

Rangers now turn their attention to the quarter-final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup tomorrow night (Tuesday) when they host Huntingdon Town, kick-off 7.45pm.
