It was smiles all round for the Cardew Family from Carlby earlier this year.

All three, Danny Cardew, Seth Cardew and Ria Cardew, from Annabel Murcotts Taekwon-do School, passed their Black Belts on the same day.

After four years of very hard training at least twice a week, they travelled down to Bristol before Christmas and were put through their paces in front of the Taekwondo Association’s most senior masters, four 8th Dans and one Grand Master 9th Dan David Oliver.

All three had to perform set routines against imaginary opponents as well as spar other students of their own age.

It was a long wait to find out if they had passed, as straight after the exam, they had to drive to the airport, as they had already pre-booked a holiday in Hong Kong for two weeks.

But instructor Annabel Murcott managed to track them down and give them the good news.

Murcott said: “They are a very dedicated family, not only do they enjoy their training on a regular basis, but also the competition side of our sport.

“They will be a valuable asset to our clubs and we look forward to many more years of training and teaching together.”
