Former Bourne Grammar School pupil Phoebe Martin has made her National Hockey League Premier Division debut.

Martin – who started her goalkeeping career as a year seven pupil at the South Road school – played for Loughborough University Students’ first team at the weekend in their 2-1 victory over Beeston.

The call-up was the latest step in her career progression after initially starting out as a junior at Bourne Deeping Hockey Club.

Martin was then selected for Lincolnshire and went on to secure regional representation as part of the England Hockey performance centre’s for under 18s.

Now a student studying sports technology at Loughborough, Martin has worked her way through their playing ranks after starting as a first year in the fifth team.

Her highlight then came on Saturday when she was selected for the first team where she produced a player of the match performance.

Martin is currently on her placement year, working for Ping Golf based still in Loughborough, with the last year being her finals.
