Derby delight for Uppingham after responding to bright start from Oakham Reserves

Uppingham Town stormed to their biggest victory of the season on Saturday after a 10-0 home success over near neighbours Oakham United Reserves.

Second-placed Town are now unbeaten in their last 18 games and have a 12-point cushion over the chasing pack in Division One of the Peterborough League.

Although the final scoreline suggested a very one-sided game, it was Oakham who created the best chances in the first 15 minutes of the opening period and could have been two goals up with better finishing.

Uppingham reacted to their slow start to the game and began to create chances with Jack Salt hitting the bar after 17 minutes from a Rob Forster corner.

It was shortly after that when Uppingham went ahead with a Rob Montgomery finish from close range.

Montgomery then almost made it 2-0 with another close range finish after 25 minutes but it was ruled out for offside.

Uppingham did score their second goal soon after though from a cross shot which was deflected in off the Oakham defence for an own goal.

Will Thomas then scored with a well taken volley from just outside the box with 10 minutes of the first half remaining to make it 3-0.

Salt was unlucky not to increase the lead when he again hit the woodwork with a 25-yard shot from a free kick.

Ryan Lord, in the Oakham goal, was kept busy for the remaining 10 minutes of the first half and was responsible for keeping the scoreline at 3-0 to Uppingham at the interval.

Town started the second half in a more positive manner and scored a further two goals through Montgomery to complete his hat-trick

Rob Forster then got in on the goalscoring act by hitting four goals for the second week running before Jordan Spencer sealed the success with the goal of the game as he cut inside from the right and hit a 20 yard left footer into the top corner.

Uppingham now travel to Oundle in their next league game on Saturday with a 2pm kick off.
