Porter looking for a reaction after home defeat
Bourne boss Leigh Porter wants his side to build up some momentum after a mixed start to their new United Counties League season.
The Wakes recorded an excellent opening day away victory at Rushden & Higham, but that was followed by a disappointing home defeat against Lutterworth Athletic last weekend.
Porter pinpointed a disappointing performance in the opening half as he suffered a 2-0 defeat on his home bow as Bourne boss.
And he’s hoping for an improved performance from his charges who make the Division One trip to St Andrews on Saturday.
The Leicestershire side were relegated from the Premier Division last season and have lost their first two games of the new campaign with a 2-1 reversal at Long Eaton in the FA Cup last week following a 3-1 home loss against Sileby in their league opener.
Porter said: “We’re looking for a reaction from the start this week.
“We had a good performance at Rushden & Higham, but the first 45 minutes against Lutterworth was very disappointing.
“St Andrews will be a good test for us. It’s a bit of a drive and they’re coming down from a higher division.
“I’ve seen them play at Deeping a couple of times so it will be interesting to see what they are like at our level.
“We will be going into every game preparing the same way though whether we’re playing top, middle or bottom of the table.
“We need a result and, if we don’t get it, it shouldn’t be for the want of trying.
“Momentum is the key thing for us at this stage. We need to be getting over the line in games because I don’t us to become a side that struggles to string results together.”
Skipper Dan Smith faces a late fitness test after being forced off with a strain at the weekend while Jonny Currall and Andrew Moss both return after missing the Lutterworth defeat.
