Bourne Town have announced that former assistant manager Jimmy McDonnell will step up to lead the first team in the UCL Division One through the 2016-17 season.

McDonnell was assistant to Steve Wilson, who left the club at the end of the season because he was struggling to balance the commitments of the role and work. However with things well and truly on the up at the Abbey Lawn, following a fifth place finish last season, it comes as no surprise that the club’s committee wished to keep some continuity.

McDonnell said on Twitter: “So the hard work begins, I’m very thankful to have been given this opportunity and I will do my very best for this football club. I would like to thank Steve Wilson and will continue to work with a very talented young squad.”

A statement from the Wakes said: “We look forward to Jimmy putting his stamp on the club and progressing the link between youths, reserves and the first team.”
