Striker pledges future to Wakes despite Deeping appearance
Wakes boss Leigh Porter insists star striker Zak Munton is fully committed to Bourne Town despite his appearance for local rivals Deeping Rangers on Wednesday night.
Munton has been registered with the Wakes since July 1, but was asked to make a surprise appearance for Rangers on Wednesday night for their plum pre-season friendly against League One side Doncaster Rovers.
Porter met with his talisman after the match and confirmed that Munton will be staying at the Abbey Lawn for the coming United Counties League Division One campaign.
Porter said: "Deeping had shown an interest in Zak and asked him to come training and play in the Doncaster game after he had come back off holiday.
"He's fully committed to Bourne Town, but it was a great opportunity for him to play against a League One side and get some minutes after his holiday.
"We had a really good conversation after the game about where I saw him as an individual and his development.
"He's an integral part of our squad so it's very good news that he's fully committed. We were always confident that was the case, but you can never be really sure about anything.
"He loves Bourne Town. He's heard a lot of positive things about what's been going on at the club since he's been on holiday and remains fully committed."
Munton will be in the Wakes squad for their pre-season friendly on Friday night when Bourne host a Spalding United XI.
The match is being played at Bourne's training ground at Milking Nook Drove due to work starting on improvements to the changing rooms at the Abbey Lawn. Kick-off is 7.30pm.
