Oakham United stayed top of the UCL Division One with their second straight win of the new season.

The Tractor Boys beat Raunds Town 2-1 on their travels on Saturday.

The Rutland side took the lead in just the second minute when Nick Young found the back of the net at Kiln Park.

Raunds responded with a goal from Dave Townsend after quarter of an hour but Dan Jenkins put Oakham ahead on the stroke of half time and that is how the game ended.

The victory is some achievement considering the lack of fire-power they had at their disposal with last weekend’s hat-trick scorer Michael Nelson missing, along with Andy Sayers and Ben Easson and then things got worse when Alex Brockbank was injured in the warm up.

But Young spearheaded the attack and wasted no time making his mark, curling a shot into the top corner after a powerful run from Adam Rothery set-up the chance.

Set pieces were responsible for the next two goals, with Townsend heading home at the back post for the hosts and then Jenkins poked home from a corner.

The Tractor Boys maintained their lead in the second half and looked threatening on the counter-attack.

There is no rest for Oakham who are back in action tomorrow when they travel to S&L Corby, 7.45pm kick off.
