Bownes leaves it late to snatch victory for Ryhall

Have your say

Ryhall United snatched a much needed victory with a dramatic last minute Tom Bownes goal away at Hampton Sports.

The Ryhall team is going through transition, and this was evident with only three players who were part of last season’s title-winning side starting on Saturday.

The game itself was a scrappy affair with a strong wind and tight pitch strangling any chance of decent passing football being played.

Goalkeeper Steve Rudkin pulled off a reflex save at the start of the second half but as the game wore on the more, Ryhall began to dominate.

Lee Barsby had the ball in the net but an offside flag ruled it out before Ashley Berridge miscued after finding a rare bit of space.

When United had a penalty appeal turned down after Joe Lippet’s cross was blocked by an arm, a goalless game looked on the cards but Bownes slammed in an Eddy Pentney corner with the last kick of the game.
