Cottesmore Amateurs began the season with a bang, beating last season’s Leicestershire Senior League runners-up, Caterpillar, 4-2.
New manager Neil Miller couldn’t have wished for a better start as his side raced to a 3-0 lead by half-time with Jake Culverwell scoring twice after Robbie Preira’s opening strike.
Preira added his second midway through the second half before Cottesmore eased off, allowing Caterpillar to pull back two late consolation goals.
Miller said: “It has given us something to work on. We showed very good discipline. We made ourselves solid and hard to break down until we conceded two sloppy goals.”
The Cottesmore boss was also grateful to Rob Lewin for abandoning a round of golf and deputise in goal with Jordan King and Shane Hicks both unavailable.
“He made two unbelievable saves to keep us 2-0 up,” said Miller.
Cottesmore travel to Desford on Saturday.
