SATURDAY, against Long Buckby, is not the day to go charging forward for goals, Deeping boss Tuncay Korkmaz said this week.

Rangers matches have been packed with goals but Korkmaz insists a point will do when the league’s form side, Long Buckby, visit Outgang Road tomorrow.

Buckby have won all 12 of their United Counties League matches this season and Korkmaz said: “They are where they are for a reason. A draw will be a good result tomorrow.

“I will be pleased with a point. We may go a bit more defensive. Our aim is not to lose the game.”

Rangers were beaten 2-1 away at Buckby earlier in the season – one of Rangers lower scoring games.

This week’s aggregate was nine goals with a 5-0 win at Yaxley followed by a disappointing 4-0 defeat at Holbeach.

The Tigers went ahead nine minutes in when a long ball from Jamie Stevens played in Ashley Stevens to outpace the Deeping defence and slip the ball past James Doughty in the visiting goal.

Holbeach look sharper than Deeping and when Chris Logan brought down Mitch Griffiths late in the first half, Luke Kennedy doubled Holbeach’s lead from the spot.

The outcome was all but settled eight minutes into the second half when Daniel Flack’s pass sent Andy Tidswell running clear of a static defence to round Doughty and slot home.

Rangers’ sorry evening took a turn for the worse when defender Spencer Tinkler received a straight red after 74 minutes. And the scoring was completed three minutes into stoppage time when Tidswell wrongfooted his marker and raced clear to slip the ball home.

Korkmaz, who was dismissed from the dugout, said: “Fair credit to Holbeach. They were the better side.

“Going in 2-0 at half time left us a mountain to climb.”

But it was a different story on Saturday when Deeping outclassed Premier Division strugglers Yaxley.

Rangers ran riot with wave after wave attack from the first whistle.

Even before Matt Heron’s fifth minute goal, the same player had hit the bar and Josh Moreman had fired a straight at Yaxley keeper Tom Roberts, when clear through on goal.

Yaxley’s best chance to get on the scoresheet came early on but Davey found somehow contrived to miss with the goalkeeper and defenders beaten.

In the eleventh minute, Moreman scored a fine individual goal, cleverly working his way in from the byline, skipping round a defender and blasting the ball home from an acute angle.

On twenty two minutes Kevin Gilbert had an effort cleared off the line, but just six minutes later Rangers killed the game off when Moreman met Mark Jones’ cross to extend the lead to three.

Rangers remained in control in the second half and Matt Holland’s own goal made it four for Rangers. Mark Jones added the fifth in time added on, with a long range effort that fooled the goalkeeper.
