A memorial match is set to take place between Blackstones and Stamford AFC to celebrate the life of Jeremy Biggs.
The match will take place as a pre-season friendly between the two clubs at the ALH Recruitment Stadium on Thursday, July 5 (7.45pm kick-off).
Jeremy sadly passed away suddenly in December 2016. He was closely associated with both clubs, having been club secretary for the Daniels, a regular at Blackstones, and predominately his beloved United Counties League, where he was press officer and registration director.
His wealth of local football knowledge will probably never be repeated as he visited each United Counties League club every season, spending a lot of time at Blackstones.
Paul Pepper, commercial manager at Stamford AFC, commented: “We’ve been thinking of a fitting way to celebrate Jeremy’s involvement with the two biggest clubs in the town for some time now.
“On a recent visit to Blackstones, myself and Graham Drury (Stamford first team manager) spoke with officials there to see if we could come up with an idea.
“I know Jeremy would have loved to see a contest between us. Graham has very kindly donated a silver salver that hopefully will be contested by both clubs for many years to come.
“We’ve always tried to include a pre-season friendly between the clubs and this will just add a bit of edge to the match from now on.”
Paul Downs, commercial manager at Blackstones, added: “It will be a fitting way of getting the two clubs together for Jeremy.
“I hope the town come out in force to support this ongoing match in Jeremy Biggs’ memory. He did so much for local football.”
Both clubs have agreed that a donation to Jeremy’s families chosen charity – The British Heart Foundation – will be made from the proceeds of the match.
