Five star Cottesmore book their place in cup final

Have your say

Cottesmore Amateurs put five past Boston and District League side Pointon to book their place in the final of the Ancaster Cup.

In a first half of little incident, Cottesmore took the lead when Fred Stannard headed home a corner.

Pointon started the second half strongly and were lucky not to level when Alex Brown denied Olly Cooper with a fine triple save.

The scare seemed to spur Cottesmore into action and within minutes they extended their lead thanks to a tidy finish by Jake Culverwell. It was three soon after when Andy Teare scored a penalty.

The goal of the game came midway through the second half. Harry Stannard drove a low free kick past the despairing dive of Jordan Baxter to put Amateurs in control.

With the result beyond doubt, Cottesmore started to turn on the style and a fifth goal came with 10 minutes to play. Andre Fontoura created an opportunity for himself with a fine run. His shot was saved by Baxter but the rebound fell to Culverwell who had an easy job to tap into the empty net.

Culverwell was unlucky not to complete his hat-trick, with a goalbound shot cleared off the line.
