Blackstones are looking good for the start of the season after making signings to strengthen attack and defence.
Three key players have finally put pen to paper to turn out for Stones in the United Counties League Premier Division.
Former S&L Corby centre half and captain Mark Hacket, ex-Deeping Rangers and Yaxley striker Sam Bettinson and frontman Addie Staffieri were all confirmed this week.
Staffieri has played for Stones before, scoring an impressive 20 goals in 17 appearances.
Blackstones joint manager Michael Goode said: “Adi had been talking to Yaxley but he’s come back to us because he enjoyed playing for the club so much.
“He’s a massive signing for us and we’re really pleased to have him back.
“Mark is a very experienced defender and again we’re really pleased to have him and Sam is also a quality player.”
With Billy Oliver more available for selection this year and the signing of left-back Matt Pearson from Deeping Rangers just about complete, Blackstones are looking forward to the future.
Goode said: “We lost Andy Ellis, Steve Burns and Simon Mowbray but apart from them all of last year’s squad have signed again.
“With the new additions we’re pleased with the squad. We’ve strengthened at the back and up front where last season at times we were lacking goals at times.
“We’re hoping for a top eight finish this season.”
Following a defeat to Crowland the week before, Stones ran out comfortable winners against UCL Division 1 side Potton on Saturday, 4-1.
Michael Nelson and Robbie Pearce both scored in the first half to give Blackstones a 2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half a few changes were made and Potton nicked one back before in the last third of the match Stones upped the tempo and Nelson bagged two more for his hat-trick.
Blackstones face Essex Senior League side Bethnal Green at home tomorrow, kick-off 3pm.
On Wednesday they then face Bourne Town at home, kick off 7.45pm, before playing the Daniels on Saturday next week.
