FOOTBALL: Injuries take their toll as Deeping squander lead

Have your say

DEEPING Rangers let a two-goal lead slip and were eventually beaten in extra-time in the semi-final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup at Outgang Road on Tuesday evening.

David Burton-Jones put Deeping ahead against Stotfold just inside the hour mark, heading in a Josh Moreman corner at the far post.

And when Josh Moreman doubled Rangers’ lead three minutes later they looked on course for the final.

But Deeping were forced into changes through injury and Stotfold found a lifeline with a quarter of an hour to go.

Lewis Holmes reacted quickest to a rebound off the woodwork on 76 minutes and four minutes later Luke Nichol scored to force the extra half hour.

Momentum was now with the visitors and Josh Cook rifled a direct free kick into the top corner to see Stotfold through to the final.

Rangers, who have moved up to fifth in the United Counties League Premier Division in recent weeks take on Cogenhoe United away tomorrow.

Deeping: James Doughty, Spencer Tinkler, Nick Jackson, Chris Logan, Steve Julian, Adam Weston (Matt Heron), Kevin Brader (Ciaran Holt), David Burton-Jones, Alex Beck (Kev Gilbert), Scott Ginty, Josh Moreman.
