FOOTBALL: Leaders give Bourne a Wake-up call

Bourne Town 0 Huntingdon Town 3

THE Wakes met UCL division one leaders Huntingdon in an unforgiving form at the Abbey Lawn on Monday.

Huntingdon put three past the Wakes without reply to maintain their two point lead at the top ahead of their potential title decider with Harborough.

Jamie Blackwell’s ninth minute goal had the leaders in front. Declan Rogers extended Huntingdon’s advantage five minutes into the second period. Niks Savalnieks wrapped up the visiting victory four minutes past the hour mark.

Bourne boss Darren Munton said: “You can see why they are top; but we did ourselves no favours. We gifted them the first goal and cannot do that against a side of their quality.

“It meant we were playing catch-up after just eight minutes.”

The Wakes have a weekend off before returning to action against Wellingborough Whitworth at the Abbey Lawn on April 21 and Munton added: “We want to finish on a high.

“Potton won on Tuesday so we are down to third-bottom. I’d like to finish higher than that.”

Bourne: Matt Gilson, Kevin Elgar, Tom Cardall, Seb Hood (Dan Smith), Alec Robinson, Mark Shrosbree, Dan Mason (Andy Moss), John Currall, Ben Easson (Alex Brockbank), Dan Jarman, Steve Mastin.
