Rutland Veterans 5 Posh Legends 2

A HAT-TRICK from Darren Munton fired Rutland Veterans to victory against a team of former Peterborough United players in extremely wet conditions at Cottesmore on Sunday.

Rutland’s Vets pulled back from two goals down to win 5-2 at Rogues Park in a charity match for Help for Heroes.

The Posh side contained players with significant Football League experience and they looked as if they would overwhelm Rutland after taking an early two goal lead.

But the Veterans took advantage of a larger squad and rotated their players, drawing level by half-time with goals from Munton and Neil Duncan.

Munton completed his hat-trick in the second half and a further goal from Kerry Nimmons secured the win.

Despite the unseasonal weather detering all but the hardiest spectators, the Veterans’ individual contributions meant that £130 was raised for the charity.

The club thanked Cottesmore for the use of their pitch and facilities, the match officials Dave Walker, Pete Chappell and Tom Tolond, and the Odd House Tavern for after match hospitality.

Rutland Veterans squad: Matt Rogers, Ainsley Petty, Paddy Hall, Barry Flavell, Barry Suggett, Lee Woods, Marcus Baines, Andy Finch, Neil Duncan, Brian Cooper, Mark Bryan, Perry Sadio, Kerry Nimmons, Mark Toms, Andy Bone, Chris Hill and Mike Tolond (Manager).
