RUTLAND Veterans’s first match in the Peterborough Veterans League takes place at Market Deeping on Sunday.

The competition, for players, 35 and over, features eight teams from the Peterborough and Stamford area.

Rutland Vets will also be entering the Umbro National Veterans over 45 and over 50 competitions again this year.

The first fixtures are likely to take place in next month with Rutland hoping to progress further than the quarter finals which they reached last year.

Four of the Vets squad, skipper Barry Suggett, Adey Stannard, Kerry Nimmons and Mark Bryan, were part of the English Amateur Veterans team which beat Scotland 2-0 at Largs last Saturday.
